Chase the Flame
Solving puzzles is fun, but that's not really the point of Rigid Digit. What we actually want is for you to get smarter and quicker at mental maths, the kind you used to do without reaching for a calculator. Every difficulty is built with that in mind, and the flame is where you can actually see it happening.
If you solve a puzzle in under ten seconds, a flame shows up next to your time. That's it, that's the whole feature. A happy bouncy flame.
Worth knowing: the clock doesn't start until you tap your first tile. Take as long as you like to look at the numbers and plan it out, the flame only cares how fast you go once you start.

We built it because speed like that is a pretty reliable sign you weren't randomly trying combinations, you were doing the maths in your head and landing on the answer. That's a different skill to solving a puzzle by bruteforce, and it's the one we think worth rewarding.
Anecdotally, Tui and I have noticed our own mental maths get quicker just from playing most days. We can (sometimes!) work out in seconds what used to take ages.
The flame carries over into your shared results too, and sharing with friends and family opens up a level of fun competition.
